Sphere Opens In Las Vegas

If you live in Las Vegas and you send someone in another part of the world this photo the first thing they will ask you is “what is that.” In this modern age of Snapchat filters and digital projections that can be edited into nearly any photo or video it is easy to see why a photo like this would come off as fake. However, for Las Vegas residents seeing this in person has become a common delicacy. So what exactly is The Sphere and what was the intention behind the creators who brought it to life.

The Sphere at the Venetian Resort is a spherical music and entertainment arena in Nevada, United States. Designed by Populous and announced by the Madison Square Garden Company in 2018. The 18,600-seat auditorium is being marketed for its immersive video and audio capabilities, which include a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, speakers with beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies, and 4D physical effects. The Sphere was designed to be a next-generation entertainment medium that aims to bring a fresh take to live entertainment.

The Sphere is the worlds largest spherical building. Visitors to Las Vegas can be seen taking photos and video recordings simply in awe of its presence. What makes it unique is the fact that even when you view it in person it appears as if someone put a large scale hologram from Snapchat right in front of you. Even when you’re in front of The Sphere it feels unreal in a way. Whoever creates the different displays is clearly having fun with its effects on the public and against any landscape and the backdrop of beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada.

The venue officially opened at the end of September and featured rock band U2 for the grand opening. Performing artists such as Steve Aoki and Diplo among others posted footage to their social media of the epic event as it unfolded. Reactions online and across social media left viewers in awe as even the footage captured through the screen of a phone paid homage to a unique experience.

As of writing this post The Sphere has already listed tickets for sale on Ticketmaster. Many of which have already sold out. If you miss the grand opening with U2 you can still experience other unique shows as they become available. The Sphere already has two upcoming event and experiences available for ticket purchase now.

One thing we know for sure is that Vegas continues to be a hot spot destination for travelers around the world. If you visited Las Vegas last year you are already connected to an outdated experience. With The Sphere, Fomula 1 coming in November and Fountaine Bleau Hotel and Casino in the works, there are sure to be many new reasons for a trip back to Las Vegas, Nevada in the near future.
